Campus Chapter Structure

It is important for each ZFA campus chapter to have a structure that effectively divides responsibilities. While each campus is unique and may require different leadership structures, an ideal structure would include the following:

Executive Board

A chapter’s Executive Board should be made up of students most dedicated to ZFA goals who are most capable and willing to commit their time and energy. An Executive Board generally meets on a weekly basis in order to ensure continued momentum on campus. While each chapter should decide for itself what Executive Board positions they feel are most needed to succeed on their campus, some suggestions include:

• President: Coordinates the Executive Board’s performance of its tasks and in most instances serves as a figurehead for the chapter on campus.

• Vice President: Establishes and maintains warm relationships with other campus organizations.

• Secretary: Assumes responsibility for all logistics and paperwork, records the minutes of each meeting and e-mails action items to participants afterwards.

• Treasurer: Assumes responsibility for the chapter’s financial transactions and budgetary needs.

• Security Officer: Ensures that all meetings and events take place in an environment where the personal safety of all students and participants is maintained.

• Communications Officer: Coordinates publicity for the chapter’s events by writing and effectively distributing press releases.

• Ethical Watchdog: Ensures that all undertakings by the chapter meet ethical standards (i.e. coffee at event is fairtrade).

• Freshman Officer: A leadership in training role for a Freshman student interested in assuming a larger leadership role in the coming years

General Board

A chapter’s General Board is often made up of students with specific talents who are interested in being involved with ZFA but are unable to make a major time commitment to the chapter. On most campuses, General Board members hold meetings with the Executive Board twice each month. Suggestions for General Board positions include:

• Blogger

• Op-Ed Writer

• Graphic Designer

• Webmaster

• Current Affairs Educator

• Photographer

Committees

Committees are comprised of students who take the lead on a specific campaign or event. Suggestions for regular committees include:

• Campaign Committee

• Event Committee

• Speakers Committee
